Overview

Starting in the old market town, the walk takes us to Black Rock before returning via Middleton.  Wirksworth is set in rugged moorland, and has abundant evidence of ancient lead mining, quarrying & textile mills  Its long history includes its Viking name, T'Owd Man, and both George Eliot & D H Lawrance connections.  There won't be time today to visit the nearby National Stone Centre or Wirksworth's Heritage Centre - you need to return another day for those.
