Overview

We walk through Wivenhoe Woods and then alongside the river Colne past quaint houses and quays and downstream to Alresford Creek with distant views to Mersea Island. After a stop we venture up Alresford Creek before returning back to Wivenhoe passing Broomfield plantation and a number of old gravel pits turned over to fishing lakes before descending the path (somewhat over grown) back to the river Colne.  Opportunity for refreshment at one of Wivenhoe's hostelries is a distinct possibility.
