Overview

As the title implies, this is a rather complex & convoluted route which occupies the delightful terrain between Lower Lydbrook & Symonds Yat.

The walk begins busily, with a rather steep section of steps, only to be followed by an even steeper climb  thru’ some of Upper Lydbrooks amazing labyrinth of ‘back alleys’ & hillside cottages!

Eventually things settle down however, & woodlands, pasturelands, streams & country roads become the norm. We now wend our way deviously to some of the many, fine viewpoints on offer at Symonds Yat, via the ‘Wysis Way’ & English Bicknor, before dropping down to the R.Wye & lunching close to the “Saracens Head” P.H.

The afternoon begins with more woods, before we find ourselves once more beside the river & following its banks back towards Lower Lydbrook. This is a particularly beautiful stretch, beneath cliff-faces & forestry, & is very photogenic, especially as we climb back to English Bicknor…. From here it is a pleasant & generally downhill walk back to our start point.

This is an excursion that can be enjoyed no matter whether you’ve been here before or not

- It’s not too hilly, it incorporates some new territory, & it provides some stunning views & locations! I mean, what’s not to like….?!?
