Overview

After parking in Milner lane near Pompocali and Hetchell Wood Nature Reserve, we set off in an easterly direction along field tracks, and through various tracts of woodland.  We will have our coffee break in the lovely village of Thorner.  From there we go along more field tracks and quiet roads, walking along part of the Leeds Country Way until we reach the village of Bardsey.  After crossing the busy A58 (Wetherby Road), we arrive back in the attractive Hetchell Woods, with its crags, ancient quarries and somewhat mysterious earthworks of Pompocali, which may be Roman or an ancient quarrying site. There are about 14 stiles, 2 of which need extra care.
