Meet Loddon Valley Ramblers
Loddon Valley Ramblers (LVR) runs a lively programme of walks, social events and weekends away. Our membership currently stands at around 400, with members joining from the wider Wokingham area, from Twyford in the north to Finchampstead in the south.
Regular walks…
Walks are within a reasonable driving distance of Wokingham, including – but not limited to – the Chilterns, South Oxfordshire, West Berkshire and the Wessex Downs, with some walks being accessible on public transport.
Our weekly programme offers a choice of longer (10-15 miles) and shorter (5-6 miles) walks, guided by our committed volunteer walk leaders. The walk leader can be contacted to check whether the pace will be right for you.
We’re a friendly bunch. As one new member put it, “I joined LVR to motivate myself to walk on cold, wet winter mornings, and was immediately struck by how welcoming and chatty everyone is.”
…and much more!
There is also the opportunity to attend LVR social events, such as a barn dance and summer barbecue. Members organise spring and autumn walking weekends, visiting interesting areas such as the Cotswolds, the Peak District and Exmoor. Some years an overseas holiday is organised.
Our Footpath Officer and a team of volunteers work to ensure that the local footpath network is protected and enhanced in the face of increasing development. This includes helping to replace over 100 stiles with kissing-gates. We are proud to have developed The Wokingham Way, a 56-mile walk around the Borough boundary.
Join us and you could soon be exploring pathways around Hurst, taking a leisurely ramble across Windsor Great Park, walking by the Thames or enjoying beautiful views over the Hambleden valley, with a sociable group of fellow walkers.
