Walking in Mansfield and Sherwood
Mansfield and Sherwood Ramblers is the thriving local Ramblers Group for Mansfield, Sutton-in-Ashfield and the surrounding areas. As a group we are lucky to be based in an area where we have access to some amazing places: Sherwood Forest, the Dukeries, including Clumber and Rufford Parks. Historic houses like Newstead Abbey and Hardwick Hall are on our doorstep, as are the country parks and tracks which are the legacy of our industrial past. The stunning Peak District is only a short drive away.
We organise walks of varying distance and difficulty, mostly on Sundays but often on weekdays and sometimes in the evening, led by a variety of trained leaders each with their own style and personality who have an extensive knowledge of the area, and often include visiting some unusual and surprising places. You do not need to be a member to come and try any of our walks.
Over the last two years the health benefits, both physical and mental, of walking have been at the forefront of people’s minds. Our group has seen an increase in members as people have joined the group wanting to challenge themselves with more, and longer walks, in new and interesting places. New members have said that they have lived in an area for many years and never knew lots of the paths that we have walked even existed.
Having a large number of trained and knowledgeable group leaders allows our group to visit many different places and to experience varied walks, woodland, fields, riverside, canal path, hills and edges. There is also the opportunity to walk and socialise with new people from different backgrounds and with different interests which adds to the experience as people share their knowledge of local history, nature, flora and fauna.
