Manchester Weekend Walkers have walked up from Todmorden to the Stoodley Pike Monument almost every January since 2013.
We follow a route with enough challenge and variety to inspire a love of walking and landscape that is walkable even in typical January weather, if you have proper clothing and footwear and are prepared for at least 5 hours on your feet.
Last year we had one very large group but this year we are trying something new. We have three volunteer walk leaders and each leader will lead a group of no more than 30 people, setting off at half hour intervals from 10.00 and all finishing before 16.00. You can join either of the groups but we think
- The first group would be better for people who are less experienced or who know they are often slower on the climbs - choose "Early Stoodley Start" to set off with Annie at 10.00.
- The middle group would be best for people who are familiar with country walking but who don't want to rush - choose "A Sensible Stoodley Time" to set off with Imelda at 10.30.
- The later group would be best for people who are used to hilly walks and are happy with a steady pace - choose "See you later, Stoodley Pike" to set off with Andy at 11.00
Whatever leader you walk with, they will look after you and help you to enjoy the day. We expect the groups may catch up with each other but even if they don't we will all be back at the same pub at the end (if that appeals).
