A weekend in the Lake District staying at the Derwentwater Independent Hostel on the Lake shore.
The hostel has a self catering kitchen so people can bring their own meals for the Friday evening, as well as food for packed lunches and breakfasts. If people prefer, the hostel can provide breakfasts (£7.45) and a packed lunch (£6.75).
For the Saturday walk, starting at the Hostel, we will be taking in 4 Wainwrights (for those bagging Wainwrights). we take in Walla Crags, Bleaberry Fell, High Seat and High Tove via the infamous Pewits! A once near impassable bog, but in recent years they have built a paved path across them preserving the bog and our shoes! From there we head down to Watendlath, taking in the views of the Tarn as we descend. Then picking up the path down to Surprise View and Ashness Bridge, before returning back to the hostel via the waterfalls. This is a lovely walk with wide sweeping views over Derwentwater and the surrounding Fells. It is on mostly good paths, however some areas can still be quite boggy so waterproof footwear is advised. The walk is about 10 miles with about 750 meters of total ascent.
If the weather is looking particularly inclement an alternative lower level walk is planned.
Sunday I have a couple of walks in mind, so these will be discussed on the Saturday evening.
The cost of the trip is £81pp which includes a 3 course meal at the hostel on the Saturday night. The nearest pub is just over a 2 mile walk away in Keswick! If you are interested in booking and are a Ramblers member please email kaz_tra@hotmail.com and I will send you payment details. Please also include if you would want to book a pack up and/or breakfast so I can update the hostel.
Please note that just clicking 'going' on the Facebook event will not secure you a place, places are only secured once payment has been received.
