Starting from the main National Trust carpark we walk beside Aira Beck, past all the waterfalls to the hamlet of Dockray and then onto Watermillock Common. We climb steadily over the common to reach an intake wall which we follow alongside Swineside Knott and enjoy spectacular views over Ullswater. Next we continue over a rise, down to Dowthwaitehead and through a picturesque valley to reach Lucy's Wood, before returning first to Dockray and then, via the other side of Aira Beck, to the carpark.
The walk is on good paths and tracks with some wet stretches, and will be done at a moderate pace. The carpark is Pay and Display so please bring a National Trust card for the carpark if you have one. Dogs must be kept on a lead.
