Overview

  • This is a circular walk from the village of Barbon through part of the Barbon estate which includes 500 acres of parkland and woodland, with the whole estate extending to some 4,500 acres. The manor was held by the Barbon family from the late 12th century, later passing through marriage to the Lascelles family, then the Pickering family, and eventually to the Shuttleworth family in 1588, where it remains today. We later climb to the trig point on Barton Low Fell from where we have a good view (on a clear day) of Kirkby Lonsdale before descending down where we can see possibly one of Andy Goldsworthy's sheep fold stone enclosures.
