Overview

We will start in Buttermere Village and follow the shoreline of Buttermere Lake before ascending the steep and rocky north-east ridge of High Stile. This challenging climb will reward us with panoramic views over Buttermere, Crummock Water, and the Western Fells.

We will then continue along the ridge to High Crag before descending the long ridge towards Herdus, eventually reaching the remote Floutern Tarn nestled in boggy moorland.

Next, we will head to Scale Force, the tallest waterfall in the Lake District (approximately 170 ft).

We will complete the route by following the path along Crummock Water back to Buttermere Village.

This walk is strenuous, with steep ascents, rocky terrain, and remote sections.
