Celebrating the fourth anniversary of the launching of The Archangel's Way Pilgrimage Route our walk takes us out from Belstone past The Great Green to meet the moor and visit Nine Maidens stone circle. We then follow TAW Stage 3A Moorland route down to Cullever Steps and around Halstock Hill across to Black Down. There is an opportunity here to cut the walk down to 6.5 miles and return to Belstone on a self-guided route, following The Archangel's Way Stage 3 guidebook and map. The main walk continues across the Red-a ven brook and across Okehampton Common before plunging down to Meldon Quarry from Longstone Hill for our lunch break. From here we follow TAW Stage 3 lowland route to Belstone climbing up Black Down, past Anthony Stile and Okehampton camp to visit Fitz cross and well. It is then on to East Hill and through Lower Halstock before down to the river through the woods and back up the valley side to re-enter Belstone. This full walk will cover 11 miles and there will be a few stops for reflection along the way. We will finish on the Great Green to enjoy Morris Dancing opposite The Tors Inn. Please book into the walk by contacting Paul Brookes by text or email.
The start point of the walk is the village main car park, (Brennamoor) outside the Village Hall.
For car parking please use the Cricket Ground, SX 621941, which will be signposted for The Archangel's Way event.
Expect moorland walking along tracks and paths with some grassy areas. There are 2 straightforward small stream crossings with a wider one at Red-a-ven brook.
