Walking in and around Tavistock
We are one of twelve groups in the Devon Area and have been walking as a group since 1976. Tavistock is an ancient stannary and market town within West Devon and is situated on the edge of the 365 square miles of Dartmoor National Park. It is also within striking distance of both the north and south coasts of Devon and Cornwall which together means that we have some of the finest walking in the country.
We run a full programme of walks throughout the year including most Saturdays and Sundays, many Wednesdays and also on some summer evenings. Our walks are varied in length and cater for the experienced walker and also those new to walking. One day you may be walking across the moor, the next along the side of the beautiful river Tamar, and on another day along the famous South West coastal path. No walk is ever the same!
To help our Walk Leaders govern walk numbers (walk conditions/car-parking etc. may lead to restrictions from time to time) you may see a request to advise the Walk Leader by text, prior to the walk, of your intention to join. This also enables the Walk Leader to advise you should the walk have to be cancelled/or amended in any way.
We encourage car sharing from Tavistock (the meeting point is always provided on days where car sharing is possible). Anyone wishing to car share should arrive at the Meeting Point 5/10 minutes before the quoted Meet Time. It is very important to note that car sharing cannot be guaranteed so anyone choosing to go to the Meeting Point may find that they still have to drive to the Walk Start.
In addition to walking, we run a regular programme of social events, the occasional holiday and some “away days” where we travel a bit further afield. We are a small group with a friendly reputation and always extend a warm welcome to new members.
