Overview

A chance to try a long walk you may have done before, in (hopefully) late-summer conditions rather than March! The day consists of a number of mini peaks, each one slightly smaller than the next until we reach Chanctonbury Ring around halfway. The second half is generally lower with undulating terrain - the one notable 'peak' could be bypassed (at your own navigational risk).

This is a strenuous walk, with plenty total ascent, lovely sea views, and a brisk-but-not-showing-off pace.

The usual lunch stop at Chanctonbury Ring (10.5 miles), just after the steepest climb. As we are starting a bit later than usual this may be ambitious, but either way lunch will be on the later side, so please bring snacks if you're likely to get hangry.

The route does pass a village with shop/pub in the afternoon, however intelligence about how suitable this is is limited as we normally walk this in March when worrying about sunset. So please bring enough snacks/water for the whole day.

The last couple of miles into Shoreham-by-Sea are flat and easy to tackle at your own pace if you want to run for a train or take it easy. Bring a packed lunch. Lovely pubs/fish and chips available at the end in Shoreham-by-Sea.

Travel: Take 9:16 from London Victoria (9:23 Clapham Junction, 9:34 East Croydon), arr. 10:48 Goring-by-Sea. Buy return to Goring-by-Sea.
