Overview

Start your walk from Lydford Nicholls Hall with a bacon butty (or sausage or egg or any combination!) at 0930. Cost is £5 including a hot drink payable at the hall on the day. Cakes available too! Parking at the village car park is now charged at £5.30 for the day. Please make your own way to the Nicholls Hall for 0930, it is on the main road opposite Silver Street.

After our breakfast, a long (10mile) and a short (6.5 mile) walk will set off together leaving the village past the Castle and Ingo Brake, through Prescombe to enter the moor at Willsworthy. Below White Hill , the short walk will head off to Wallabrook Head, skirt Doe Tor and pass the old Wheal Frederick mine before heading back down to Lydford on the old track between Brai and Arms Tors. The final stretch will be along the road through the village.

The long walk heads south east to cross the ford below White Hill and climb Ger Tor and Tavy tors before turning north to Hare Tor. Sharp and Chat Tor. Once Dick's Well is reached the route follows the track west all the way to High Down. We then re-enter the village via Skitt Lane.

The A386 is crossed twice on each of the walks so care to be taken. Stretches of road walking appear at the start and finish (especially on the short walk) so all must keep to one side in a compact group. Grass and dirt tracks on the moor with a short stream crossing on the short walk. These are moorland up and down routes so expect some wet and uneven ground. The views should be tremendous on both walks. The Castle Inn awaits at the end!

Leaders will be at the start in Lydford. Please text Paul to book in for the walks.
