A short but steep walk both in ascent & descent. The walk starts from the car park next to Nant Bwrefwr & circles around the valley containing the tributaries of the Nant Caerfanell. The walk intially descend to a footbridge crossing Nant Caerfanell. The Eastern side of Nant Caerfanell is followed past a number of waterfalls for just over half a kilometre. The walk breaks steeply out of the stream gorge & ascends Cerrig Edmwnt to the cairn on Cwar y Gigfran. This marks the end of any significant ascent. The rewards are the all round views as far as Swansea Bay, Sugar Loaf & Pen y Fan. The views are mainatined as the walk circles around the cliffs Cwar y Gigfran, Graig Fan Las & Craig y Fan Ddu before descending steeply besides Nant Bwrefwr & more waterfalls to return to the car park.
The major ascent & descents are steep, so although the walk is short you should be physically fit. The traverse of the cliffs Cwar y Gigfran, Graig Fan Las & Craig Fan Ddu are exposed so you should have a head for heights. Parts of the walk are muddy so suitable foot ware is important. Good warm, waterproof clothing is essential. Some food & drink might be appropriate. Note due the exposed cliffs this walk will be cancelled at short notice if high winds or heavy rain are forecast.
