From the car park, we head up on Ham Link road, climbing up Burrington Ham to continue to Beacon Batch. Turning east then north the walk descends down to the village of Blagdon and then continues to Ubley, enjoying lovely views of the lake/reservoir, weather permitting. Turning uphill from the village through Ubley Wood, continuing on Ubley Drove for about a mile, we reach the meandering paths of Velvet Bottom. Walking along the bottom to where it meets West Mendip way, we climb up heading toward Beacon Batch and then descend down to the car park. The total ascent is slightly over 2000 feet. It a gentle walk with 2 distinct and contrasting landscapes.
