Join us for a walk that has everything - dramatic cliff paths, coastal meadows, a peaceful estuary, a historic setting, quiet rhynes, seashore and beach. This is a 6 mile circuit to the north of Weston-super-Mare at Sand Point.
The first half is undulating with some climbs and a short stretch of quite difficult knobbly paths on Sand Point itself. There are marvellous views in every direction - in particular west down the Bristol Channel, north towards the Welsh coast and beyond and east towards the Severn crossing bridges. The second half is completely flat and easy, but may be muddy and wet in parts. We shall make a small detour to view the outside of Woodspring Priory which dates from the 12th Century.
There is a mix of surfaces, one stile and one short ladder over a wall.
Driving to Sand Point takes about 40 mins from North Bristol, down the M5 to Junction 21 and follow signs for Kewstoke and Sand Bay.
Public transport is by train to Weston-super-Mare and then the Coaster 1 bus to Sand Bay. Note that there is a 20 minute walk to the starting point at Sand Point (but our return will pass closer to the bus stop).
There are no toilets at the car park where we start or on the walk. There are plenty of bushes.
Afterwards, the nearest hospitality will be in Sand Bay and Kewstoke, about 1 mile away, where there are various tea rooms, cafes, a pub and a chippie. There are toilets (20p) in the village car park.
