Bo'ness and the Kinneil Estate
Leader: Pat Banfill (Tel: 07786 022733)
Meet at Currie Library at 9.30 for 9.45 departure and at 10.15 at Bo’ness Railway Station.
Moderate Walk - 7.5 miles, Ascent 100m
Walk Description
After hopefully seeing the steam train depart, we will follow the foreshore around the nature reserve and into the Kinneil estate, where we can see historical remains from Roman and medieval times. We’ll hopefully see some bird life on the loch and follow the John Muir way through the woods and then gently uphill for the view towards Linlithgow, and then through a shelter belt to retrace our steps to Kinneil House and to the station car park.
For those who would like a shorter walk, it is quite possible to retrace your steps once you have walked along the foreshore and back to the station which would be 3 miles, or once you have reached Kinneil House which would be about 4 miles.
Travel Directions
Leave the M9 at junction 3 and take the A904 Bo’ness road. Follow this road for 3 miles, first Grahamsdyke Road and then Dean Road, to reach a set of traffic lights with a park on the right and a petrol station ahead. Turn right onto Linlithgow Road and follow it as it winds downhill towards the Forth. At the roundabout take the second exit into Union St which curves to the right. Keep on Union St until it turns sharp right and go straight ahead through the gates into the Bo’ness and Kinneil railway site. Park on the right, just inside the gates.
