Overview

If arriving by car meet and park at 8.15 in Western Esplanade (pay £8 for all day - cash or contactless). Then walk to get 9.00 Redjet ferry to West Cowes.  Go direct to terminal if travelling by other means. At West Cowes short walk to M&S Foodhall to get No 1 Bus to Newport, Then 10.40 No 12 Bus to Brighstone (at Stand B)  arriving at 11.02. Toilets. Short Visit to Brighstone Museum. Then walk 8.59 miles to Newport via Limerstone Down, Brighstone Forest, Idlecombe Down, Bowcombe, and Carisbrooke Castle and Mount Joy. No 1 Bus to West Cowes and RedJet back to Southampton

The climb up to Limerstone Down starts immediately from the village of Brighstone but in stages.Extensive views in both directions along the south coast. Then through the Brighstone Forest and along a ridge with views over the north coast. After descending to Bowcombe it is down the Lukely Brook Valley to see the southern side of Carisbrooke Castle. Final climb over Mount Joy with views down onto Newport.
