This 6 mile circular walk, with a total ascent of 900ft, combines a climb to the Callander Crags leading onto a walk to the Bracklinn Falls.
Leaving the car park at the rear of The Dreadnought Hotel we immediately begin a steady climb through mixed woodland and up onto the Crags. Emerging from the woodland the views become impressive over the surrounding hills and lochs. There will be a short break at the Jubilee Cairn, erected in 1897 to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. This viewpoint affords excellent views over Callander and as far as the Wallace Monument near Stirling. These tremendous views continue during the steep and uneven descent off the Crags which needs to be tackled slowly and with care. From here the walk joins a road which leads down to a small bridge through verdant, open countryside. A short climb up an open track heads onto a woodland path leading down to the Bracklinn Falls. The current bridge over the falls of the Keltie Burn was opened in 2023 replacing the previous one which had become unsafe. The gorge includes some spectacular rock formations. A lunch break will be taken here to allow some time to appreciate the sights around the Falls. The walk continues up through woodland and back down the car park.
On return to Callander there are plenty of venues adjacent to the car park offering refreshments to suit all tastes!
