An interesting pre Christmas 'figure of eight' walk in the Trent valley from Fradley junction taking in sections of the Trent and Mersey and Coventry canals.
After a quick walk around Fradley Pool Nature Reserve we follow the Trent and Mersey Canal to the charming village of Alrewas from where we cross the River Trent and follow the National Forest Way through fields to Wychnor Park. We turn and make our way along country lanes to Wychnor itself with it's charming red brick church. Wychnor is the site of a deserted medieval village and field system and walkers will have time to read the interesting information board there. We then re-join the Trent and Mersey Canal, walking back to Alrewas via a short boardwalk section where the River Trent and the Canal merge together.
We walk through part of Alrewas village into a park, past the cricket club, following rights of way through fields and country lanes to Fradley village and on to the Coventry Canal. We follow the canal back to Fradley junction where pre Christmas refreshments can be sampled from the Swan pub or the Dancing Duck cafe.
This is a flat walk in an attractive river valley along canals and rights of way, through fields and country lanes. Depending on weather conditions the section along the National Forest Way to Wychnor Park may be boggy.
