This is a typical CAPITAL RING walk, being a mixture of quiet residential roads, parks, commons and woodlands. Most of the walking is on tarmac.
Starting at Crystal Palace Railway Station we walk westwards, along quiet streets and footpaths passing through Westow Park, Upper Norwood Recreation Ground, Biggin Wood and Norwood Grove (whick includes a Grade II listed mansion). Leaving the mansion grounds we join the Copgate Path leading us to Streatham Common Community Garden, the Inkspot Brewery (it was closed on the walk-out!) and the Rookery Cafe. We have now reached Streatham Common. A tarmac path takes us downhill and provided us with views over the Wandle Valley. Section 4 of the Go Jauntly route (3.9 miles) ends shortly after we leave Streatham Common, close to Streatham Common railway station.
Section 5 (6 miles) soon takes us passed the Thames Water Streathem Pumping Station, which was built in 1888, Tooting Bec Lido and Tooting Bec Common. Further on we enter Wandsworth Common where there are a number of toilets and a cafe. After leaving the Common we soon pass Wandsworth Prison, where Oscar Wilde was imprisoned in 1895, Wandsworth Cemetery, Wandsworth Common station, Earlsfield station, cross the Wandle River and on to Wimbledon Park Station, where the walk ends.
Although there are a number of cafes on route, these are usually quite small and not suitable for a large group of walkers. I suggest you bring a packed lunch.
