Another year...Another long distance path. It feels so recently that we were in London looking back at our achievement in completing all 146 miles of the Shakespeare's Way. Now we look forward to the next adventure. The 177 miles that the Chiltern Way has to offer. So many miles in fact that this will be our first two year challenge.
So are you ready to explore the breathtaking beauty of the Chilterns? Join us as we walk the Chiltern Way in stages, discovering picturesque landscapes, charming villages, and hidden gems along the way. This long-distance trail, covering approximately 177 miles offers a perfect mix of rolling hills, wooded paths, and open fields. From historical landmarks to cozy pubs, each stage of the Chiltern Way promises new discoveries and delightful experiences.
Section 1 kicks off at Hemel Hempstead Train Station and heads South-West through peaceful woodlands and open countryside to Chalfont St Giles.
This section will rely on car sharing between the start and end point due to limited public transport. Therefore, if you are driving it would be preferable to meet at Blizzards Yard Car Park, 12 High St, Chalfont Saint Giles HP8 4QA by 10am. We will then get into as few cars as possible to make our way to Hemel Hempstead Station for the start of the walk at approximately 10:30am to 10:40am. If you are coming by public transport you can meet us at the train station. On completion of the walk the cars that we left at Chalfont St Giles can ferry people back to Hemel Hempstead. If you walked sections of the Ridgeway or Shakespeare's Way with us then this routine will be familiar.
This 13 mile section is comparatively flat with only 250m of ascent. Although, it does come with the usual muddiness you would expect of anywhere in the Chilterns, so sturdy walking boots are strongly advised.
Dress warm, bring a packed lunch and when you get to the end, give yourself a pat on the back because there will only be 164 miles remaining!
