A circular walk from Ventnor Park along the Coastal Path to St Lawrence, up St Rhadegund's Path to High Hat, Nettlecombe, up to Stenbury Trail, back across Ventnor Golf Course and Cemetery. You should take some water, and food if you think you will need it.
The walk will take in Steephill Cove, along the southern edge of Ventnor Botanic Gardens, then westwards on some of the recently reopened coastal path along the cliff top to St Lawrence. Then we'll head inland up St Rhadegund's Path past the entrance to the defunct railway tunnel and High Hat to Nettlecombe, once a thriving village. Past the fishing ponds we'll head up towards Stenbury Down, as far as the Stenbury Trail, then head south back towards Ventnor, crossing the golf course and taking a detour through the cemetery to see the recently installed gravestone of Olivia Parkes, a local personality who lived in a hut below La Falaise for many years. Finally we'll head straight down St Albans Step back to town with a refreshment stop in a cafe on the esplanade. The walk will cross farmland with livestock (sheep usually) so dogs must be on a lead, as they must be across the golf course. There are many steps, a couple of stiles and lots of kissing gates.
There are toilets at the start in the park, and at the end in the town centre and on the esplanade. Public transport is on bus route 6; we are also a short distance from route 3 (nearest stop Boots).
New walkers welcome. If you are new to the Ramblers you can just turn up for any of our walks, unless we specify otherwise. We invite you to come along for three walks as a non-member.
