This walk will be led by Jack Hutchinson.
The walk will be about 11 miles with 900 feet of ascent. There will probably be some wet and muddy conditions but also a fair amount of good solid tracks. Also a number of ups and downs, some quite steep. But we will be rewarded for the hard work with one of the finest walks in this lovely area now designated as a National Landscape.
We start by going north to Welburn, before which we emerge suddenly from woods to one of the finest views in the Howardian Hills. After Welburn we pass the King Oak and Four Faces monument to emerge again from woodland and more views of Castle Howard.Turning west we pass the Pyramids and the Aviaries. After Brandrith Wood we descend to the fishponds at Mowthorpe with more good views then a couple of steep climbs before Bulmer. There is another steep climb to Bulmer Hagg Woods followed by an easy couple of miles back to the start.
