Overview

This lovely walk in and around Forge Valley was often led by one of our longstanding members, Neville Kirkpatrick, a walk leader for our group, and a former committee member. Neville was a very popular member of our Group and whilst this walk was only one of the many walks that Neville led, it was a favourite of many. This walk will be in memory of Neville, and some of his family will be joining us to share in the pleasure that Neville and our members experienced from walking in this delightful area.

Starting at West Ayton, we walk past the ruins of Ayton Castle and up to woodland overlooking Forge Valley, with views towards the coast, before the descent to Wrench Green and the River Derwent. Another ascent up through Greengate Woods offering great views over Hackness and the surrounding valleys. Walking through woodland we descend to the sea cut before climbing again up through Raincliffe Woods to Irton Moor, enjoying the fine views towards the Yorkshire Wolds as we descend towards West Ayton.

This walk is locally graded as 'Moderate Plus'
