A brisk walk taking in the old and new of the City of London. We start at Monument Underground Station and head in a broadly anti-clockwise direction seeking out the old and forgotten - Roman ruins, peaceful churchyards and backwaters - and an interesting stretch of the north side of the Thames, before we head north to have a picnic lunch in the warmth of the Barbican arts complex.
Please bring a picnic lunch although there may be time to pick up something light there, as well as hot drinks!
After lunch we complete the final part of the 4 mile 'old' walk and return to Monument. Walkers will then have the option of heading home or continuing on with a further tour of some of the City Sculpture trail, which we will finish at Liverpool Street station, allowing us a chance to visit Spitalfields covered market or a local pub.
Numerous exit points - this is a flexible walk with plenty of public transport options.
