South Derbyshire villages and countryside not far from Ashbourne.
The group does not stop at cafes or pubs for lunch, and you should bring enough food and drinks with you to last the whole walk. We usually stop for a coffee break an hour or so into the walk, and stop for packed lunch around 1230-1300 although weather and suitable locations will affect both timings.
Risk assessment: The walk leader has assessed this walk for the following risks, but during the walk others may become evident. You should remain alert and take individual responsibility.
The walk is mainly pasture with some hard tracks, it could be muddy if there has been a lot of rain. There could be flooded footpaths near Shirley where there are several lakes, part of the Osmaston Estate, but they only flood if it has rained heavily in previous days, and there are alternative hard tracks which will not flood. Otherwise you will encounter normal stiles and gates. We cross the A515 twice, and possibly muddy sections, but much depends on the weather.
