This is an unusual hill walk in that its highest point is slightly less than 1500 feet. It should not be assumed that it is easy. There are three steep climbs, two sections where the paths are rough underfoot and the delight of crossing a stream without the luxury of a bridge. The highlight of the morning is the glorious walk beneath the limestone cliffs of Craig y Ciliau. We return to Crickhowell for lunch and then ascend Table Mountain by a steep direct route. We then descend to enjoy the attractive valley scenery between Llanbedr and Llangenny before our final climb takes us back to the start. The total ascent is around 3,300 feet.

This is a more demanding walk than usual (AHW) and is at the hard end of our walk categories. As such we don’t recommend this walk to anyone who’s not previously been on A walks. These walks are likely to involve some very steep ascents and descents. It’s likely there will be pathless, rough (possibly very rough) ground in high hill country. You need to be a regular hill walker used to multiple climbs and thousands of feet of “up and down” at a strong pace for several hours. There is unlikely to be a pub stop or indeed shelter in the event of poor weather. Irrespective of the weather forecast you need to be fully equipped for all conditions.
