We will meet at the front of the Ditchling Village Hall (Lewes Rd, Ditchling, BN6 8TT) (opposite The Bull Pub) at 10:15. The walk starts at 10:30. Free parking is available at the Village Hall. Also, on West Street at various points and on Lewes Road. The primary school, about 300 metres from the roundabout, was noted as a good location.
The walk is one of two halves. A figure of 8, the first loop is from Ditchling, heading north through covered paths and fields, flat but interesting, with lovely views and easy walking. We will return to Ditchling and then head south towards Ditchling Beacon. The second half contains one steep climb up onto the Beacon but, on the whole, quite an easy walk.
We will be stopping for lunch either in or just outside of Ditchling. We can decide on the day, but there are several options.
There are toilets at the village hall, the start and finish point. We will also walk past the hall at the half-way point.
Dogs are welcome. However, one section on the Downs with sheep and cows close to the path is worth noting. They are passive and not bothered about people though.
The climb to the top of the Beacon is hard work, but we will take it slow and pace for everyone.
