We start from outside The Three Crowns, and head Northeast and pass the Grade II* listed Homestall Manor the oldest wing 14th Century, and the remainder 17th century which was transported piece by piece to its current location from Cheshire in the 1930s by the Dewar family.
The building was used in World War II to house injured service man, including those recovering form plastic surgery by Archibald McIndoe at Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead. One these was the Spitfire Pilot Richard Hillary who wrote the best-selling book “The Last Enemy”.
We then head East passing Little Water and Owlett’s Farms, shortly afterwards we have splendid views of Hammerwood Park a grade 1st listed Greek revival building designed by Benjamin Henry Latrob. Building commenced in 1792. From 1973-1982 it was owned rock band Led Zeppelin; hence the title of this walk is after one of their songs.
We return Southwards via Pollards Wood, then across fields with fine views Southeast to Hartfield, head West passing Grove Farm, then along Cansiron Lane back to the start.
