Leaving the ancient Town of Dorchester on Thames, we cross the water meadows and fields to Warborough and onto Shillingford, where we join the Thames Path to Benson. Unfortunately, the weir is being repaired so instead of following the diversion, we use the small ferry to cross the Thames, before continuing along the river to Wallingford. Following the ramparts, we head through the housing estate to Slade End and Brightwell cum Sotwell (home of Bach flower remedies). From here we head up over fields to the Wittenham Clumps and then back to Dorchester via Days Lock.
The walk is on well used paths and mainly in the open, so be prepared for the prevailing weather on the day.
There are 3 stiles.
Bring food and drink for the day, though coffee and cake could be purchased at Benson where we will stop for a break before catching the ferry.
The ferry cost £2 per person and is payable by card only. I suggest one of the party pay by card and the walkers reimburse the card payer. The ferry takes 8 people so we may have to make it in separate groups.
Numbers are unlimited but please book on line by 6pm, 23 April.
