This 6.2 mile circular walk starts from outside Elstree School. We soon pass St Peter's Church, Upper Woolhampton, and continue through Douai Park and past Malthouse Farm on our way to St Mary's Church in Beenham. We then walk through Beenham Village, pausing for a refreshment break on the green, after which we continue through Greyfield Wood and Ironmongers Copse to Chapel Row. From here we walk along the southern edge of Bucklebury Common for a while, before heading south through Carbins Wood and returning to the cars via Midgham Green and Channel Wood. There should be plenty of bluebells to admire on the way round.
Conditions underfoot should be pretty good on the whole, but on my mid-March recce there were still several muddy stretches, so sturdy footwear is recommended. There are quite a few ups and downs, but there's nothing steep, and any inclines are relatively short-lived. There are eight squeeze stiles, five of them near the beginning of the walk and the other three towards the end. Please bring refreshments for the mid-morning break, and remember to reserve your place on this walk by clicking on the link no later than 6.00 pm on Monday 21 April.
