This is a delightful walk with some stunning views of the Staffordshire and Derbyshire scenery. Be warned though, there are some big hills to climb so it's no Sunday stroll. It took me and three friends a little over five hours of walking when we did the 'recce'. It took us three hours to reach Alstonefield where we enjoyed a welcome drink at The George pub. The walk back was mostly downhill and took us two hours, largely following the River Dove, which we crossed using the famous stepping stones.
Meet at Dovedale Car Park, near the toilets/pay booth. This is free for members of the National Trust, otherwise it's £7.00 for the day. Note that there's no phone signal so you'll need your membership card with you (or a photo of it on your phone).
