A walk up the Campsies to its highest point Earls seat with great views of all surrounding villages , Loch Lomond and the highlands, and the unmistakable prominence of Dumgoyne.
This is a combined walk with the Strathkelvin and Cunninghame Ramblers
We leave from Clachan of Campsie car park or Campsie Glen as it is more commonly known instead of the usual route which is either from the Glengoyne Distillery or Blanefield , we head through Schoenstatt onto the main road for a short walk leaving to the right up the farm road until we pick up the path to head upwards towards Earls seat on paths, rough tracks, some steep ascents and marshy open ground.
The route covers the hills of Dumbreck , past Owsen hill, Little Earl and onto Earls seat 1896 ft at the summit.
We return on the same route until Dumbreck where we follow the path to Ballagan Farm , cross over onto the old railway path and follow it back to Clachan of Campsie
Campsies as always can present with all seasons in 1 day. Terrain can be extremely boggy in places, some steep ascents, a few stiles to climb and some road walking. Gaiters, poles and water proofs recommended, maybe some sunscreen too!!
Due to terrain - walk is moderate to strenuous- B+
