Walk details
The walk will take us from Reading station to Goring & Streatley station and offers a lovely journey along the River Thames, moving from the lively heart of Reading into scenic countryside and picturesque river views. Beginning at Reading Station, we'll make our way down to the Thames Path, where we’ll then walk westward along the riverbank. The first stretch takes you through Caversham and alongside lush parks and tree-lined paths, with views of riverboats and rowers on the water. Continuing along the Thames Path, we'll pass through calm stretches of farmland and meadows, which in the Spring and Summer is dotted with wildflowers and shaded by mature trees. We’ll pass through quaint riverside villages like Pangbourne, where we'll be stopping off at The Greyhound for lunch. Crossing through beautiful locks and occasional wooden bridges, you’ll feel immersed in the natural tranquility of the Thames Valley. As we near Goring & Streatley, the landscape opens up to offer views of gentle hills and riverside houses nestled along the banks of the Thames. The riverside walk finishes at the twin villages of Goring and Streatley, which sit on either side of the river with historic churches, inviting cafes, and a peaceful atmosphere that marks the perfect finishing point to the walk. For those who want a pint at this point, we'll be stopping off at The Miller of Mansfield, which is only a short walk from the station.
