We are the Sutton Coldfield Ramblers. We open the way for everyone in our local community to enjoy the pleasures of walking.
An 8.5 mile mostly level walk, with a couple of stiles. The car park is in the middle of the Avenue that stretches over 2 miles from the Coven Road, across the Shropshire Union Canal to Chillington Hall. We follow the Lower Avenue, then along the towing path, leaving it to loop through Brewood and back to Dean's Hall Bridge to join the Staffordshire Way. We then turn along the Cross Britain Way to reach Chillington Hall, then along the Staffordshire Way until Long Birch Farm, following the lane to Lower Hatton's Bridge where we follow the towing path to the Avenue Bridge, returning to the start. the nearest refreshment would be the Bridge Inn at Brewood.
Directions: Take the A452 through Brownhills. At the roundabout, take the first exit to join the A5 for 8 miles. At the Gailey roundabout (Dobbies Centre), continue on the A5 for 820 metres, turning first left onto Claygates Road (signposted Brewood, Chillington Hall). After 1.1 miles, turn left into Tinkers Lane which changes to Port Lane. After 0.5 miles, just before the gates to Chillington Hall Avenue, turn right onto Upper Avenue with the car park immediately on your left.
