After alighting from the bus, we make our way up to the Glencoe Ski Resort where we can make use of the toilet facilities. From there we head back downhill to join the West Highland Way heading south, picking up parts of the historic drover road crossing the expansive and exposed Rannoch Moor. In fine weather it’s a place of beauty but can be wild and forbidding in foul weather. On the way to Inveroran we cross several bridges including Ba Bridge and Victoria Bridge.
Leaving Inveroran we head uphill and possibly make a short detour to visit a cairn which offers superb views across Loch Tulla. From there we are walking mostly downhill on a zigzag path, Bridge of Orchy coming into view with the two mighty Munros (Beinn Odhar and Beinn Dorain) backdropping the village. Hopefully we will have time to quench our thirst before heading back to Glasgow.
This is a moderate walk at a brisk pace which we will need to maintain order to catch the 1708 back to Glasgow. There is a fairly steep ascent from Inveroran to the cairn at the summit of the hill. This section of the WHW is mostly on fairly wide paths, but can be uneven underfoot and a bit slippery in wet weather.
Snacks and water for bus journeys is advised as we will be having a late coffee break and a late lunch break, both being on the stretch from The Ski Resort to Inveroran.
If you wish to come on the walk you must contact the Leader in advance by email, text or phone call, but not more than two weeks in advance. Also, please provide the Leader with a mobile phone number in case arrangements change.
Walkers should not come on the walk if they have any symptoms associated with the Covid virus.
