This is what John Candy would have done had he been a rambler rather than a film star. A walk that has almost everything. Starting from Stoney Middleton we proceed along the river Derwent past Froggatt edge and past Grindleford with great views of any trains should they actually be running! From there we head off over Smelting Hill and Abney Moor before we approach the gliding school at Camphill. Once we've had our fill of aviators, we head off past Great Hucklow and through Foolow to reach the no longer disease ridden village of Eyam. From here it's just a short sneeze back to the start point and a well earned pint at the Moon Inn.
It's wet - so dress accordingly (hopefully not, but expect the worst!). There's open moors so boots are a must, there will be ground nesting birds - expect Curlews and Lapwings - so dogs strictly on leads only. It's long, but won't seem so. Be prepared for a full day out and carry enough water and food. There are no toilets at the start. Parking is limited, so carshare where you can. There's lots of stiles. This is the Peak District. It's where they proliferate and spread to the rest of the country.
