Our walk takes us along rough tracks, fields (cattle, sheep), moorland, lead mining remains, woodland and the Monsal Trail. There are several stiles of different varieties.
We will park at Hassop Station (£5.50) and walk 10 minutes down the Monsal Trail to Pineapple Farm to connect with the 257 bus – which goes through several villages on the way to Grindleford.
We will set off from Grindleford walking along the Derwent River to Froggatt, over the bridge, then a steep climb into Eyam, passing Riley graves. We will stop at Eyam for ‘elevenses’, there are two cafés available, or take your own.
From Eyam we traverse a rocky track eventually crossing the busy A623 then make our way across Longstone Moor to the cairn at the top, where we will stop for our lunch, before dropping down into Great Longstone. Walking through the village we join the Monsal Trail to return to Hassop Station where we can partake of tea, cake, pizza light meals etc before driving home.
We will share lifts, alternatively there is a rail station at Grindleford, and buses to Bakewell from Derby.
We will need to arrive at Hassop Station by 09:20 to allow time to get ready and walk to the bus.
Packed lunch needed, toilets at start, Eyam and end.
