The distance is just over 9 miles. This is a relatively gentle B walk with about 800ft (250m) of climb. Following mainly tracks and paths we walk through the wind farm and then drop down to the top of Loch Long. The walk takes us to the South of Harelaw Loch and the along a quiet road to Craighall Reservoir and Neilston Pad. The return is along the north edge of Harelaw Loch.
The distance is just over 9 miles. There are a couple of steeper climbs but nothing huge, it can be a bit squishy around Craighall Reservoir and the north side of Harelaw Dam so gaiters may be a good idea. We do need to negotiate a couple of burns and a fence, plus possibly climb a gate. There may be some cattle and/or sheep grazing.
Travel Directions: the walk starts from the B769 (Stewarton Road), just north of White Loch at the entrance to another new wind farm grid ref NS492526, nearest postcode G77 6PZ. You can either take the M77 to Fenwick and cut across to the Stewarton Road using the Clunch Road, or M77 to the Newton Mearns turn off and then come back on the Stewarton Road. Parking is to the side of the gate and can accommodate up to 6 or 7 cars if required. Further parking is also available by White Loch itself.
Mileage: 30 miles round trip approx.
