This is a 12 mile linear walk from Burton Agnes to Bridlington. We will catch the 121 bus to the start of the walk (cost £2) and we begin by following a minor road out of Burton Agnes and then onto field paths towards Rudston where we will find a neolithic monolith in the grounds of the parish church. This is also the burial site of the novelist Winifred Holtby. Continuing on, we pass the gypsy race stream and head through the zigzag plantation and as we emerge to some pleasant views, we'll stop here for lunch.
After lunch, we head down a rutted field path to Carnaby, passing a lovely memorial which depicts a wartime scene from what was Carnaby Airfield (now an industrial estate). The story surrounding the memorial is remarkable and we will pause here look at it. We then walk a short distance alongside the busy A614 towards Bessingby before we cross the road and get back on to quieter field paths until we eventually reach the cliff tops, where we turn left and follow the promenade towards the harbour, where we can treat ourselves to chips and ice-creams.
Park at Moorfield Road Car Park (YO16 4LE). Cost £3.30 for the day. Cash and card accepted and toilets are also available. We will leave here at 10am prompt and walk to Bridlington Bus Station to catch the 121 bus at 10:25.
The walk is mainly on minor roads, field paths and tracks. We do walk a short distance alongside a busy road and also cross a railway line via a foot crossing. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead at all times.
