We leave Todmorden via the Rochdale Canal heading south and then go up the hill past Dobroyd Castle and along the ridge to Todmorden Edge, descending near Lydgate.
At that point anyone who does not want to do the whole walk can easily return to Todmorden by bus or on foot.We then follow the Calderdale Way and the Todmorden Centenary Way up the steep hill to Whirlaw, and then descend past the golf course and go over the railway line to return to Todmorden.
There some short stretches on field paths and roads but the majority of the walk is on tracks and partially paved ‘trods’. These may be wet and muddy if there has been heavy rain.
There are 5 stiles on the route.
There are some quite steep ascents up to Todmorden Edge and up to Whirlaw, and also steep descents from these, but we will take these with care.
Booking is required for this walk. Please ensure you book onto the walk by emailing the walk leader.
The main object of our walks is fresh air, exercise and the sheer enjoyment of walking with good company. For more on what to expect please follow the web link below.
