We start the third section of the Jorvic Way at Wheldrake and head toward Dunnington along the River Derwent.
🥾 After wet weather or high river levels some parts of the walk will be muddy – walking boots recommended. The photos shown were taken on a sunny September day, things may look quite different in November!
Please check the meeting point and travel plans below carefully. The walk starts from Wheldrake at 10:00, but if you are coming by car you will need to meet at Dunnington by 09:30.
🚌 The 18 bus (East Yorkshire) leaves York Merchantgate at 08:30, arriving into Wheldrake at 08:54. The Caffé Valeria opens at 09:00 so you can get a coffee or some breakfast while you wait! There are regular buses from Dunnington back to York at the end of the walk on the 10 (First York) and X45 (East Yorkshire).
🅿️ If you are coming by car, meet at Dunnington by 09:30, where there is on-street parking on Intake Lane. We will then take some cars to the start of the walk at Wheldrake, where there is on-street parking on Broad Highway, near the school. Please be prepared to offer others a lift to Wheldrake before or after the walk.
🐶 Dogs are welcome but should be kept on a lead. Be aware there are multiple stiles to cross as well as fields where livestock may be grazing. If you are bringing your dog by car then you must arrange beforehand with someone else who is happy to give you and your dog a lift to the start of the walk.
🥪 You will need to bring a packed lunch with you.
