Starting from Machen Village Hall we follow the Rhymney River Circular route towards Draethen and Ruperra Castle. We then follow the Rhymney Valley Ridgeway Walk towards Caerphilly passing through lovely old woodland. We pick up the Cambrian Way to Cefn Onn and return to Machen via Rudry Common. This is a lovely walk through varied terrain with 1200 feet of climb spread over the whole route and offering good views along the way. The walk can be muddy in wet weather. Poles are recommended.
