If coming from Staines allow a good hour for the drive and note that the route will take you over Henley bridge - a site of possible congestion and delay. Parking is to be found in the side roads of Peppard Common just off Gallowstree Road - Chiltern Road (preferred), or Shiplake Bottom.
There is one steep descent and a couple of steep inclines on this walk. No stiles. There will be a water break en route in the morning before a late coffee break (at about 5.5 miles) in, or around, St Margarets Church at Mapledurham, by the Thames. There is plenty of seating in the churchyard. and refreshments usually available inside with a donation. Adjacent is the grand Elizabethan Mapledurham House, home of the Blount family for generations. A water mill dating from the Middle Ages is also on this site and still grinds flour.
Lunch break will be at the Packhorse, Chazey Heath, 8 miles in. Contact the- leaders several days prior if you want a seat in the pub. Picnicking is possible on the verge around the car park.
