The walk starts from the car park by the mill at the Rother Valley Country Park. Following the banks of the River Rother we reach the TPT which follows an abandoned railway line and we continue on another abandoned railway line to the south of Killamarsh. A short road walk through Upperthorpe then its through fields and woodland until we pass under the M1 into the village of Woodall. Continuing through fields to Harthill village we reach our pub stop at the Beehive. After lunch we follow the footpath on the boundary of the country park formed from the Kiverton Colliery spoil heap. Then onto the Cuckoo Way which follows an abandoned railway, under the M1 and then follows the course of the abandoned Chesterfield Canal. Leaving the Cuckoo Way we get back to our start point via the Rother Valley Country Park access road.
Parking at Rother Valley Country park is £6.50 for the day. It is payment when you leave using the machine at the mill. Toilets at the start point and at the lunch stop. Quite a lot of stiles on this walk some of which are not dog friendly. During the pre walk in October it was muddy in places so could be worse in January 2025. Walking poles and gaiters recommended.
Walkers are reminded it is their responsibility to wear appropriate footwear/clothing, bring adequate food and drink and carry emergency contact details. Go to the Walks/Information for Walkers tab for more details.
