Overview

From Great Ashby District Park, locally known as the Serpentine, we walk on old paths, that survived the encroachment of Stevenage New Town, to Damask Green. Then to Halls Green and on part of the Roman Road to Luffenhall. We return via the Beane Valley through Walkern and Box Wood.

After the recent rain, good footwear is essential and walking poles are recommended. Bring a picnic and drink. Brief pub stop. Optional car share from Barnet: Victor's Way Car Park, EN5 5TR
W3W: rocks.gain.votes Departs sharp at 09:10 (24 miles).

This walk will also be listed in the Hillingdon ramblers group programme.

For most people, A1M J7 and A602 is a better route than going through Stevenage town centre. From Great Ashby Way in north-east Stevenage, turn east into Serpentine Close; follow it around left and right hand bends to a T junction; turn right (south) and the entrance sign to Great Ashby District Park will be ahead of you.
