Overview

This walk starts and finishes at Old Sarum. It follows wide tracks through the Wiltshire farmland with far reaching views across to Salisbury Plain. We then drop down to follow the River Avon back through the Woodfords towards Salisbury. There is some roadside walking (about 1km) at this point on grass verges. The final part of the walk takes us through the ramparts of the Iron Age fort around the Norman castle of Old Sarum where we can take the opportunity to explore the site.

If you want to visit the castle ruins at the centre there is an entrance fee (unless English Heritage members).
